The birth of a logo
The birth of a logo…
My first job out of college was working in Italy for Alpinestars. One of the projects I was able to work on was the WRC driving gloves.
In hindsight that experience was pretty impactful. It started an obsession with Subarus, driving fast off road, and a big-eyed pig sticker. Eventually I bought an STI (it's been sold and I now drive RZRs). And that pig… the world wide web revealed that "it's called P-Chan, and it's a black pig from the Manga comic Ranma 1/2, which ended back in 1996, the character Ryoga is cursed in the comic and whenever he gets wet turns into this pig."
That sticker inspired a icon I made for myself which I've used on social media for over a decade.
When I did the first Dirtslayers logo, I basically cheated and combined a couple of stock elements (please forgive me). As I got serious about making Dirtslayers a reality, I pulled my head out and decided it was time to design a real logo. I've always liked the clean, over-exaggerated Manga style, so I decided to go back to that same big eyed pig for inspiration, and voila the new Dirtslayers logo was born (with more attitude).
The Subi pig history lesson comes from this blog:
